Listening Assignment: This I Believe

     In the first recording I listened to about Jackie Robinson, the communities that we were hearing about were the baseball community, but also the African American community. Robinson was the first African American that joined Major League Baseball. He told about the challenges that he faced and how he had to get through them. I found most interesting the positivity and belief that Robinson had in society. He truly believes that if we work to make society good, then it will be good. I found this interesting because as a teenager today, people all around me are telling me that society is bad and that people of today’s world are bad. The second story I listened to was about a mom who found her place in her children’s school life by bringing in juice boxes instead of trying to make sandwiches. The community being explored is the moms of school children. This story moved from observation to insight because she told us her personal experiences and told us what it was really like to be working in college and still trying to provide for your children. She appealed to the realness of life. Not everyone is good at everything they do. Greetings! I am Katelyn Mitchell. I come from a very small town in western Kentucky called Stanley, but more people will recognize the city I live outside of, Owensboro. I am the youngest of 3 girls. I went to a private school my whole life, so I have spent thirteen years with the same eighty-six people. I was on the tennis team for six years in middle and high school. Most of my best friends played tennis with me. I feel very connected with this group of people. Question Assessment

 My research question was about how being involved in on-campus ministries help you to transfer to college. I can develop a persuasive argument in this by including the opposite bias of people who do not believe that on campus ministries can affect you. I plan to interview people who are and are not involved in on campus ministries. I can further research into scientific background of on campus ministries in relation to the academics of students. While talking, I need to understand that people in my audience may not be religious. Some may not believe in God, and some may even be of a different religion.
